Technique: Metalwork, Wirework
Description: Combine layers of metal sheet, objects, paper, rocks, and fiber to create and build unusual wearable rings. Focus on cold-joining techniques such as riveting prongs and staples. Add height and dimension with negative and positive space. Be introduced to new tools such as disk cutters, forming block, and bezel block to fabricate new shapes and bezel form.
Project will be completed in class.
Student must be at least 18 years old to register for this class.
Supplies to Bring: 18-gauge wire, anvil, anvil pillow, awl, bench pin, clear nail polish, hammer, metal files, rawhide hammer, task lamp, jeweler’s saw with size 2 blades or tin/wire snips, ball-peen hammer. Optional: Drill, flat metal files, extra 16-gauge wire, photographs, transparencies, extra sheet metal.
Pliers: Chainnose, needlenose.
Materials in Kit: Sheet metal, copper, tubing, screws, nuts, transparent paper, fiber, bezel, 16-gauge silver wire. Use of fabricating tools and expendables.
Limit: One seat per person per class.
