Technique: Wirework
Description: Students will learn to bend 14-gauge wire into an open spiral and texture it with a hammer. The wire will then be set through the shank of a button to form a wire bezel. The band will be made by coiling 20-gauge twisted wire over 14-gauge wire. The wire will then be oxidized to create an antique finish. A pendant will also be made using the same process.
Project will be completed in class.
Student must be at least 16 years old to register for this class.
Supplies to Bring: Chasing hammer, heavy-gauge wire cutters, steel block, task lamp. Optional: Free-standing cordless hand drill. Instructor will have texture hammers for sale in class.
Pliers: Chainnose, standard roundnose, serrated roundnose.
Materials in Kit: 1 1/2 oz. of 14-gauge dead-soft wire, 1/2 oz. of 20-gauge twisted wire, two glass buttons, 16- or 18-in. silver beaded snake chain, twisted silver jump ring, gem drop.
Limit: One seat per person per class.
