Technique: Glass and Lampworking
 
Description: The instructor will help students dispel some of the myths about working with Satake glass from Japan. Using an oxygen/propane torch, the instructor will cover flame chemistry, shaping, and annealing Satake glass. Design techniques will include the use of copper, silver, and gold leaf, as well as adding complexity to beads with simple murrini, twisted canes, and much more. All the design techniques are applicable to other brands of glass, so this is a great opportunity to try Satake glass and still learn a few techniques that can be applied to other glass. Class involves the use of a torch with open flame and gases. Wear safety (didymium) glasses, cotton clothing and closed-toe shoes. Tie long hair back. Additional two-day session offered Friday, June 6 and Saturday, June 7 (B08622).
 
Project will be completed in class.
 
Student must be at least 18 years old to register for this class.
 
Supplies to Bring: Didymium glasses, graphite marvers, mashers, personal lampworking tools, tungsten pick, tweezers.
 
Materials in Kit: Gold, silver, and copper leaf; mandrels; bead release; glass for class.
