Technique: Metalwork, Wirework
Description: Students will produce a serpentine design chain-link necklace using very basic tools and fundamental goldsmithing skills. Under the guidance of an award-winning jewelry artist, students will learn to accurately measure, saw, file, forge, bend, shape, and assemble repetitive links finished off with a forged clasp and findings. Additional session offered Saturday, June 7 (B08645).
Project will not be completed in class.
Student must be at least 16 years old to register for this class.
Supplies to Bring: 6-in. ruler, anvil, anvil pillow, bench pin, fine-tip permanent marker, flush-cut wire cutters, goldsmith hammer, jeweler’s saw, mandrels, metal files, Optivisors, plastic hammer, small round bezel mandrel, reading glasses, task lamp, terry-cloth towel, writing materials, dividers, scribe.
Pliers: Flush side-cutting, half round, long roundnose, small chainnose, small flatnose, standard flatnose, standard roundnose, stepped roundnose.
Materials in Kit: Copper, fine silver, handout.
Limit: One seat per person per class.
