Level: Beginner Maximum Class Size: 14 Class Fee: $470.00 Technique: Glass and Lampworking Description: This is a high-energy two-day class that will explore the unique properties of borosilicate glass. Beads are the primary focus while working with colors from Glass Alchemy and Northstar. Projects cover color striking properties, stripes and dots, and color layers and encasing techniques. Custom color blends and sculptural forms will then be explored to create beads both on and off a mandrel. Students will also experiment with asymmetrical shapes and textural surface designs. Additional projects completed in class include a vessel or wine stopper and a heavily encased button or pendant. Previous torch experience is mandatory. Students must know how to correctly light a dual-fuel torch. Class involves the use of a torch with open flame and gases. Wear safety (didymium) glasses, cotton clothing and closed-toe shoes. Tie long hair back. Project will be completed in class. Student must be at least 18 years old to register for this class. Supplies to Bring: Didymium or safety glasses, graphite marvers, mandrels, mashers, personal lampworking tools, tungsten pick, tweezers. Materials in Kit: Variety of borosilicate color from Northstar, custom color kits and frits from Glass Alchemy, clear borosilicate rods. Limit: One seat per person per class.
