Technique: Glass and Lampworking
Description: Begin to create vortex beads with layers of colored glass, dichroic glass, and reduction frit built over a white glass center. Press glass into a lentil mold to shape. The center of the lentil is then heated and a clear rod is applied and given a half turn, swirling all the colors into a vortex. The clear rod is nipped off and the excess clear glass is melted into the surface of the bead to create a window. The rim of the lentil is heated and small cuts are made to give the bead a serrated look. Class involves the use of a torch with open flame and gases. Wear safety (didymium) glasses, cotton clothing and closed-toe shoes. Tie long hair back.
