Technique: Glass and Lampworking
Description: The instructor will break down step-by-step one of her well-known beads and focus on students’ own understanding of design. This will be a technique-oriented class where students will learn how to build multilayered floral pendant designs. Beginning to advanced flameworking techniques will be explained and demonstrated, such as ribbed canes, use of a punty, heat control, clear encasement, simple stamen murrini cane and its application, construction of a glass bail, simple implosion flower design, and the ball flower widely used in paperweight construction. Students will combine a variety of techniques to complete a three-dimensional flower pendant. Some flameworking experience is required. Class involves the use of a torch with open flame and gases. Wear safety (didymium) glasses, cotton clothing, and closed-toe shoes. Tie long hair back.
Project will not be completed in class.
Student must be at least 18 years old to register for this class.
Supplies to Bring: Craft knife, didymium or safety glasses, graphite marvers, mandrels, mashers, pad, paper, pen, raking tools, tungsten pick, tweezers, writing materials. Basic lampworking tools will be provided for use in class.
Materials in Kit: Glass, sludge, punty.
